Tiger Confessions

Here's a new piece for Princeton Alumni Weekly. It accompanies a story about a private Facebook group for Princeton students,  Tiger Confessions. In this group, students can anonymously express thoughts they're uncomfortable  expressing in person to others. These confessions can run the spectrum from happy, sad, embarrassing, to just plain humorous. In a recent post, a student discussed committing suicide, which caught the attention of the school administration. They reinforced the idea that, while it is worthy to have forum such as this, there are mental health professionals available, who can help address difficult issues and emotions which students confront.

Here're some of the sketches I submitted for this project.

A special thanks to art director, Marianne Nelson, for this fascinating assignment.

Athletic Management

Here are recent pieces for Athletic Management - a publication geared towards high school and college-level coaches & athletic directors. The drawing above accompanied a story about helping student athletes become responsible social-media users. Emphasis is placed on Twitter, a popular platform for students. Athletes receive training on how to tweet responsibly - with knowledge that they represent their schools (and their individual reputations).

The above drawing accompanied the 25th anniversary installment of the Game Plan column. The author, a former athletic director, answers questions about various issues which affect athletic programs. This article addressed the need to continuously emphasize safety to coaches - in the form of videos, meetings, checklists, etc.

Here are some of the sketches I submitted:

How Tweet It Is

I love collaborating with local institutions. These spots were created for Marist College, which is just 20 miles down the Hudson River from my home. This alumni magazine article addresses how the school is embracing social media. Twitter, Facebook and other platforms are utilized to promote the school to prospective students, advertise events, and keep the community connected. Marist has plenty to offer, and social media is an excellent way to get the word out.

This spot accompanied a chart showing Marist College's 'following' on various sites.

Facebook acts as a portal to prospective students.

The process of creating three simple drawings can get pretty messy, as evidenced by this pile of sketches and references in my studio:

A special thanks to Leslie Bates giving me into this fun assignment.

Social Media Covered...

I created this alumni magazine cover for Loomis Chaffee, a premier boarding school in Connecticut. The Spring issue focuses on how the Loomis Chaffee community can benefit from utilizing various social media. Art Director Patty Cousins liked this idea of viewing the school's most iconic building through a smart phone. All the kinetic activity in this drawing reminds me of my favorite childhood publication, Mad Magazine!

I always appreciate when clients mail me samples, so thank you Patty!

Here are some cover ideas:

The Importance of Being Social

Loomis Chaffee is a premier boarding school in Connecticut. These drawings accompanied an alumni magazine story; The Importance of Being Social. It's about how social networking sites can benefit the Loomis Chaffee community. Art Director Patty Cousins asked me to illustrate logos of popular sites, but with a fun twist. I hope you find them...pinteresting?
