Mapping Exhibit Announcement

I'm thrilled to announce that this portrait, John Lewis, Civil Rights Hero, has been accepted into a juried show at 440 Gallery, 440 6th Avenue, in Park Slope, Brooklyn. The theme of this exhibit is Mapping, and the opening reception is June 29, 5-7 PM. Enormous thanks to jurist, Maddy Rosenberg, for recognizing this piece for inclusion with other great artists. Hope to see all my Brooklyn friends there!

John Lewis

Out of humble roots in Alabama, John Lewis rose to become one of the most significant civil rights leaders in America. I was born on Bloody Sunday, the day he made his fateful march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge. This event would help inspire the most important voting rights legislation in US history. John Lewis is no longer with us, but he provided us with a template in fighting for voting rights going into the future.

Signed prints of this portrait are available here, in my Etsy shop.

John Lewis

Here's a portrait of civil rights icon, John Lewis, as a young man. Born in Alabama in 1940,  he helped lead the fight for racial justice and voting rights in the South. A proponent of nonviolent protest, Mr. Lewis was arrested over forty times (and beaten several times as well). As eloquent as ever, he is now  a representative of Georgia in the US Congress. He is a great American.

Thanks for viewing. You can see a large collection of my map drawings here.
