Red Hook Recycles

Yesterday, I spotted this sign in front of the Red Hook Village Hall - promoting Electronic Waste Recycling Day. This piece was originally part of a series of drawings I donated to help promote a local energy-saving progam, the Red Hook 10% Challenge. Last month, Mayor Ed Blundell asked me if the town could reuse this art to advertize their recycling drive, and I was happy to oblige.

Environmentalists say, "Think globally, act locally".
I'm glad to see my drawings being put to good use.

A Riverkeeper Retrospective

The Hudson Valley is considered the birthplace of the modern American environmental movement. Riverkeeper was founded by one of those original activists, Robert H. Boyle, to protect the Hudson River from polluters. This organization advocates for the region through environmental litigation. Here are covers I've contributed to their newsletter over the years.

This art appeared in 2002 Society of Illustrators Annual.

This issue addressed how General Electric's PCB pollutants were affecting the Hudson River.

This was part of a successful campaign pressuring GE to remove PCB pollutants from the Hudson.

The slogan "Think globally, act locally" is true.
Riverkeeper campaigns continue to hold polluters accountable,
and help protect this beautiful valley I call home.

They wanted a positive/optimistic image that coincided with the fresh start of a new year. I focused  my thought process on something near and dear to my heart, environmental themes.

Sam Scali, who handled this assignment, really liked the flower-bike idea, for it's sunny disposition. This image resonates with me because it gives new meaning to that old hippie adage, Flower Power!

PS. Here are a few New Year's t-shirt concepts that I started with:
