From the Poles to the Equator

 

I’m honored to have this piece on display in a public art box, which is located at 7260 South Broadway in Red Hook, NY (right next to Holy Cow Ice Cream). This artwork is titled From the Poles to the Equator, and it was designed to draw attention to endangered and vulnerable species around our planet. Enormous thanks to the Red Hook Sustainable Communities Program for helping local artists share their creations in our community!

Meadowbrook Moose

Here’s a fun project for the Meadowbrook School in Weston, Massachusetts. I was asked to create a cut-out doll for a brochure which promotes this excellent K-8 institution’s annual fund drive. It depicts their mascot, the Meadowbrook Moose, along with cut-out accessories which he/she/they can be outfitted with - showing school pride. As a moose lover, I had a blast designing this character, along with the little dress-up elements. Special thanks to fantastic designer and longtime collaborator, Dan Beard, for this fantastic assignment.

NY Fed Museum Map

I had the pleasure of collaborating with an amazing designer, Megan Mardiney, in creating a this ambitious 8 ft by 10 ft map installation. It’s located in the museum at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, on Liberty St. in Manhattan. The NY Fed helps implement US monetary policy (regarding interest rates, inflation, treasury bonds, etc). This map represents the region they encompass,: NY State, Puerto Rico. the Virgin Islands, as well as parts of CT and NJ. 

The NY Fed maintains a healthy dialogue with the people, businesses and local governments throughout this territory. They promote sound economic decision-making.

This museum educates people about the role of the Federal Reserve, as well as how our economy works. The vignettes on this map represent various industries, landmarks and animals of the region. Dallas Magazine Illustrations

I had the pleasure of creating these tiny spot illustrations for Dallas Magazine. They accompany a story about Marcus Hiles, a Texas real estate developer who likes to brag about his net worth, has powerful political connections, owns lots of expensive toys, and doesn’t always treat women very nicely. Drawings on Fabric

In light of Martin Luther King's birthday,  here's my collection of drawings on fabric. No doubt, these prominent African Americans have enriched the diverse tapestry of America. Some have been catalysts for equal rights, as in Rosa Parks (above). Others have changed American culture in terms of music and fashion. All are an important part of the fabric of the amazing country.

Jay Z helped put hip-hop music and culture on the map

Billie Holiday was a legendary Jazz singer.

Malcolm X was an important voice in the civil rights movement

American Educator

These drawings will appear in American Educator - a publication geared towards public school teachers and administrators. They accompany an article, From Reaction to Prevention, Turning the Page on School Discipline.  It looks at current discipline practices enforced in public schools - and suggests ways to make them more effective. I was asked to to create simple positive images to soften the intense subject-matter of this story.

Lifeguards...

These charcoal sketches were drawn at the Red Hook Pool on Saturday afternoon.  I've always looked up to lifeguards (in part, because they sit 8 feet above everyone else). Seriously, they've got an important job, and they do it well!
