Sports Crowdfunding

Here's a new piece for Athletic Management Magazine. The story addresses how high school sports teams can utilize social media to enhance crowdfunding for their programs. A special thanks to art director, Pam Crawford, for another fun assignment!

Hot Domain Properties

Here's a new piece for the Wall Street Journal, about the new domain name, .nyc , which recently went on sale to the public. Some speculators are buying up multiple addresses, betting that they will become hot properties in the future. Examples include brooklyn.nyc, pizza.nyc, law.nyc, and kids.nyc, to name a few. You can read the article here. Given the tight deadline, I had two hours to come up with ideas. Here are a few of the sketches I submitted:

On the waterfront

I was in a crabby mood while drawing this picture for Rutgers Magazine. Researchers at Rutgers' Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences have found that water quality along the New Jersey coast has improved in recent years. Given this encouraging story, there's reason for Jersey shore crustaceans to party!

Shut Up and Drive....

This illustration accompanied a story about safe driving practices. Engineers and researchers at Rutgers have "designed a smart phone app that identifies where the cell phone user is in the car. If it’s the driver’s side, the app communicates to the caller that the driver is unavailable; if the call is urgent, it simplifies communication steps for the driver in order to reduce distractions." Worthy apps like this will certainly help smart phones get even smarter (and hopefully save lives in the process).

Social Media Covered...

I created this alumni magazine cover for Loomis Chaffee, a premier boarding school in Connecticut. The Spring issue focuses on how the Loomis Chaffee community can benefit from utilizing various social media. Art Director Patty Cousins liked this idea of viewing the school's most iconic building through a smart phone. All the kinetic activity in this drawing reminds me of my favorite childhood publication, Mad Magazine!
