Here's a new piece for the Wall Street Journal, about the new domain name, .nyc , which recently went on sale to the public. Some speculators are buying up multiple addresses, betting that they will become hot properties in the future. Examples include brooklyn.nyc, pizza.nyc, law.nyc, and kids.nyc, to name a few. You can read the article here. Given the tight deadline, I had two hours to come up with ideas. Here are a few of the sketches I submitted:

More Hudson Valley Maps
I've been sketching ideas for an exciting new project for a local client. The themes of these sketches represent various towns, people and landmarks of the Hudson Valley. Local maps are used as canvases. I'll be posting a lot more about this project and my client very soon. You can view my first batch of these local map sketches here.

Hudson Valley Seed Library
I'm thrilled to have illustrated this seed packet for the Hudson Valley Seed Library. Blue jade sweet corn originated in Mexico, so I incorporated a map into the drawing as a nod to those historical roots. These corn plants are very short, so you can grow them in a pot. These seeds, along with many other 'custom artist designed' packets are available here.
Unfolded, the seed packet looks like this. (images courtesy of seedlibrary.org) |

Osama Bin Laden
On May 2nd, 2011, America breathed a sigh of belief. A decade after the World Trade towers fell, the mastermind of this horrific event had finally been killed. As the Navy Seals were taking Osam Bin Laden down, President Obama and his staff monitored their progress from the White House situation room. An iconic photo capturing this moment appeared in papers the next day. Until a week ago, the clipping was affixed to my refrigerator. It inspired me to draw this charcoal portrait, which is 16" by 22". I'm grateful that a bit of closure to a horrible chapter in US history was delivered on that day.
